Issued in 1994, France Scott #2419–2420 are part of the annual EUROPA series coordinated by CEPT, with that year’s shared theme honoring major scientific discoveries in Europe.

• Scott 2419 (2.80f) commemorates the discovery of the AIDS virus (1983). The abstract, cellular imagery conveys biomedical research and the microscopic scale of virology, acknowledging a pivotal breakthrough in modern medicine.
• Scott 2420 (3.70f) marks the matter waves proposed by Louis de Broglie in 1924, a foundational concept of quantum mechanics. The dynamic graphic forms suggest wave–particle duality and theoretical insight.
