Description
Finland Scott #278, issued in 1948, commemorates the 200th anniversary of the founding of Suomenlinna (Sveaborg) (1748–1948), the historic sea fortress guarding the entrance to Helsinki.
The stamp features an engraved view of the fortress walls, bastions, and surrounding harbor, capturing both the military architecture and maritime setting of the site. Executed in finely detailed line work, the design reflects mid-20th-century Scandinavian engraving at its best. The denomination is 12 markkaa, with inscriptions noting the anniversary dates 1748–1948.
