Description

Issued in 1938, Estonia Scott #139–142 is a four-stamp commemorative set celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Estonian Learned Society (Õpetatud Eesti Selts), founded in 1838. The society played a crucial role in preserving Estonian language, history, and folklore during the 19th century, laying the groundwork for Estonia’s later independence.

Each stamp features a finely engraved portrait of Friedrich Reinhold Kreutzwald, the author of Estonia’s national epic, Kalevipoeg, and one of the country’s most important cultural figures. The consistent portrait design across four denominations creates a striking visual series, with different colors highlighting each value while reinforcing the unity of the issue.

The denominations of 5, 10, 15, and 25 senti were chosen to cover a range of domestic and printed matter rates, making the set practical for everyday postal use as well as a commemorative tribute.

This complete set is offered Mint Never Hinged (MNH), with full original gum, crisp impressions, and rich, unfaded color. A premium collectible for specialists in Baltic States, literary figures, and pre-war European commemoratives.
