Description

Issued in 1960, Egypt Scott #503–504 is a two-stamp commemorative set released for World Refugee Year (1960–1961), a global humanitarian campaign organized by the United Nations to draw attention to the millions of displaced people left in the aftermath of World War II and subsequent conflicts. At the time, Egypt was part of the United Arab Republic (UAR).

The design depicts a refugee mother and child pointing toward a distant horizon, symbolizing both displacement and hope for resettlement. Behind them appear a mountain landscape and a map of Palestine, grounding the image in the political and humanitarian realities of the Middle East. The UN refugee emblem appears in the corner, reinforcing the international nature of the campaign.

The set was issued in 10 milliemes and 35 milliemes denominations, suitable for standard and international letter rates, ensuring widespread postal use while promoting the humanitarian message.

This pair is offered Mint Never Hinged (MNH), with full original gum, clean surfaces, and fresh, vibrant color. An important and evocative issue for collectors of United Nations themes, Middle Eastern history, and humanitarian philately.
