Description

Issued in 1988, Egypt Scott #1377 is a commemorative stamp marking the 40th anniversary of the World Health Organization (WHO), founded in 1948. The WHO has played a central role in global vaccination campaigns, disease eradication, and public-health initiatives, and Egypt has long participated in its regional programs.

The design is clean and boldly modern. A large “40” dominates the center, integrated with the WHO emblem of the Rod of Asclepius encircled by olive branches. The years 1948–1988 appear prominently in red panels, while the cool turquoise background gives the stamp a crisp, clinical feel appropriate to a public-health theme. Bilingual Arabic and English inscriptions reinforce its international scope.

With a denomination of 20 piastres, this stamp was intended for standard domestic and international letter rates, making it widely used on everyday Egyptian mail at the end of the 1980s.

This example is offered used, showing a light cancellation with intact perforations and strong remaining color. A strong topical for collectors of medicine, public health, United Nations agencies, and modern Egyptian commemoratives.
