Description

This is a used set of Denmark Scott #277–279, issued in 1941 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the death of Vitus Bering, the famed Danish-born explorer whose voyages helped map the Arctic and the North Pacific—including the strait and sea that bear his name.

These beautifully engraved stamps feature dramatic seafaring imagery typical of Denmark’s mid-century commemoratives:

Set includes:

  • 10 øre (Scott 277) – Deep violet engraving of Bering’s ship cutting through polar waters.

  • 20 øre (Scott 278) – Carmine-red version with the same bold maritime design.

  • 40 øre (Scott 279) – Blue high value, sharply engraved and especially prized for its crisp linework.

Each stamp has clean, readable circular date cancels, strong color, and sound perforations. The combination of uniform design and three distinct color palettes makes this set visually striking and historically significant.

An excellent addition for collectors of exploration-themed issues, polar history, or classic Scandinavian engravings.
