Description
Denmark Scott #192–197 (1930–1933) comprise the complete early Caravel series, one of Denmark’s most iconic and enduring definitive designs. Each stamp features a beautifully engraved depiction of a 16th-century caravel, sails full and pennants flying—a symbol of Denmark’s maritime heritage and exploration history.
The set includes six values in distinct colors:
-
#192 – 15 øre red
-
#193 – 20 øre gray
-
#194 – 25 øre blue-green
-
#195 – 30 øre orange
-
#196 – 35 øre brown
-
#197 – 40 øre green
The caravel motif is framed by waves, rigging details, and bold denomination numerals, making this one of the most visually consistent and attractive definitive series of the era. These stamps were widely used in domestic and international mail, and their design longevity led to numerous later printings and color variations—though this early group remains especially popular with collectors.
Your used examples show strong period cancels that do not overpower the detailed ship engraving. Colors are vivid and impressions crisp, providing a solid representation of the complete first Caravel set.
