Description

This pair includes Denmark Scott #159–160, issued in 1920 to commemorate the Reunification of North Schleswig (Sønderjylland) with Denmark following World War I. These stamps mark one of the most significant national events in modern Danish history, symbolizing the return of Danish-majority territories after the Schleswig Plebiscite.

Scott #159 – 10 øre Green

Depicts the historic Ribe Cathedral, one of Denmark’s oldest churches and an important symbol of national heritage. The design features bold Art Nouveau–style framing and the central “1920” inscription marking the year of reunification.

Scott #160 – 40 øre Blue

Shows Als Church (Sønderborg area), representing the regained regions of South Jutland. The ornate borders and heavy line engraving are characteristic of early 20th-century Danish commemoratives.

Both stamps are used, with clear circular date cancels, strong color, and solid perforations. Examples from this issue commonly come with heavier cancels, so this pair is particularly attractive.

A great addition for collectors of Denmark, Scandinavia, post–World War I history, or architectural topicals.
