Description
Issued in 2001, Denmark Scott #1163–1166 is a four-stamp commemorative series celebrating birds of Denmark’s wetlands and coastal landscapes. Designed with a loose, painterly style, the set highlights species commonly found along Denmark’s shores, lakes, and marshes.
The set includes:
• Scott 1163 (4.00 kr) – Barn swallows (Landsvale) in flight, symbolizing summer and migration.
• Scott 1164 (5.25 kr) – Greylag geese (Grågås) resting in wetland reeds.
• Scott 1165 (5.50 kr) – Eider ducks (Edderfugl) floating on open water.
• Scott 1166 (12.25 kr) – Arctic terns (Havterne) feeding their young along the coast.
The soft watercolor-style artwork gives the stamps a naturalistic, almost sketchbook feel, very different from Denmark’s more formal engraved issues.
This complete set is offered used, showing clear circular cancellations with intact perforations and strong remaining color. A beautiful group for collectors of birds, wildlife, and Scandinavian nature themes.
