Description

Denmark – 1996 Traditional Sailing Boats Stamps (Scott 1052–1054), Used

This attractive used trio from Denmark, issued in 1996 and cataloged as Scott 1052–1054, depicts traditional Danish working boats, highlighting regional boat types and Denmark’s long maritime heritage.

Each stamp combines a detailed illustration of a sailing vessel in use with technical line drawings showing hull and sail construction, linking lived maritime practice with naval craftsmanship and design history.

  • Scott 1052 (3.50 kr) shows a jolle from Roskilde Fjord, a small working boat suited to shallow inland waters, traditionally used for fishing and transport.

  • Scott 1053 (3.75 kr) depicts a sjægt from Limfjorden, a distinctive flat-bottomed sailing vessel designed for the narrow sounds and fjords of northern Denmark.

  • Scott 1054 (12.25 kr) features a smakkejolle from the South Funen Archipelago (Sydfynske Øhav), a larger coastal boat adapted for open water and heavier loads.

The designs were created by Martin Mørck, combining historical accuracy with clean, readable illustration. The inclusion of construction schematics gives the set particular appeal to collectors interested in shipbuilding, maritime history, and nautical design.

All three stamps are postally used, with visible cancellations that do not overwhelm the central imagery. Colors remain strong, perforations are intact, and overall condition is clean and attractive for used examples.

A strong thematic group for collectors of Denmark, ships and boats on stamps, maritime history, or traditional crafts and working life.
