This used pair from Denmark, issued in 1996 and cataloged as Scott 1050–1051, was released as part of the annual Europa theme honoring Famous Women. Denmark selected two internationally influential cultural figures and presented them through modern, graphic portraiture rather than traditional engraved likeness.

• Scott 1050 (3.75 kr) honors Karen Blixen (1885–1962), the celebrated Danish author best known internationally for Out of Africa, published under the pen name Isak Dinesen. Blixen’s work spans memoir, fiction, and Gothic storytelling, and she remains one of Denmark’s most enduring literary figures. The stamp’s earth-toned, abstract design evokes legacy and narrative depth rather than literal portraiture, reflecting her lasting cultural presence.
