Description
Issued by Denmark in 1970, this 90 øre stamp (Scott #455) depicts stylized Viking ships inspired by archaeological finds from Scandinavia’s maritime past. The simplified white line forms against a teal field give the design a contemporary graphic quality while evoking the seafaring heritage closely associated with early Danish history.
Designed and engraved by C. T. Slania, the stamp reflects Denmark’s ongoing celebration of its nautical traditions and the influence of Viking culture on national identity. This example is unused hinged, with fresh color and typical gum disturbance from hinging. A handsome modern commemorative for collectors of Viking and maritime themes.
