A handsome bicolor issue from Denmark’s 1870–71 “Numeral and Coat of Arms” series. This 4 skilling stamp features a central coat of arms design in blue surrounded by a brown oval frame with bold numerals at the sides. The example shown bears a clear circular date cancel, with well-centered perforations and strong color contrast between the brown frame and blue center. Printed by typography and typical of the elegant craftsmanship of early Scandinavian issues.
