Description
Denmark Scott #183 (1927) is a striking provisional surcharge applied to the earlier 20 øre carmine King Christian X definitive. This issue bears a bold black “7” surcharge on each side of the lower tablet, revaluing the stamp during a transitional period in Danish postal rates.
What makes this issue especially distinctive is the prominent straight-line “TELEGRAF” cancellation, indicating use in the Danish telegraph system rather than standard postal service. These telegraph cancels are highly collectible and often far bolder than typical circular date stamps, creating an eye-catching contrast against the vivid carmine background.
The underlying engraved design shows King Christian X in profile within an ornamental oval flanked by laurel branches and crowned monograms (“CX”). The surcharge is sharply struck, and the telegraph overprint remains fully legible. Perforations and color are consistent with normal period handling.
A desirable example for collectors of Danish surcharges, telegraph cancels, or provisional postal issues of the 1920s.
