Description
Denmark Scott #163 (1927) is part of the provisional surcharge series issued to accommodate a rapid postal-rate change. For this issue, the Danish Post Office applied a large black “8” overprint to the existing 7 øre gray numeral-type definitive.
The design features Denmark’s classic wavy-line and crown motif with lions in the upper corners, a layout used throughout the definitive series of the era. The bold surcharge stands out clearly against the monochrome gray background, making this one of the more visually distinct provisional issues.
Used examples typically show crisp cancels from the late 1920s, such as the one on this stamp. Perforations and overall impression remain consistent with the period, and the strong overprint makes it a desirable addition for collectors specializing in Danish surcharges, numeral issues, or provisional postal history.
