Description
Denmark Scott #130, issued in 1913, is the powerful 5 Kroner violet & black high denomination from the iconic King Christian X engraved definitive series. This is one of the most sought-after values in the set, both for its striking high-contrast design and its postal history significance. The stamp features a large, finely engraved portrait of King Christian X surrounded by a heavy laurel wreath and bold “5 Kroner” inscription—one of the most elegant classic designs of early Scandinavian philately.
This example is used, with a clear, readable circular cancellation that provides authenticity without overwhelming the portrait. High-value Danish definitives almost always bear heavy postal use, and cancellations on 5 Kroner stamps are rarely this balanced. The rich violet frame and deep black vignette retain strong color, and the perforations are sound for a stamp of this size and era.
Because the 5 Kroner stamp paid major domestic and international postal fees, clean used examples are significantly scarcer than lower denominations. Collectors of Denmark, Scandinavia, engraved portrait issues, and early 20th-century postal history consider Scott #130 a cornerstone piece.
