Description
Danzig – Scott #180 (1923) – Used
This striking 25 Pfennig stamp was issued in 1923 by the Free City of Danzig, during its years as an autonomous city-state under League of Nations administration. Featuring the iconic Danzig coat of arms—a crowned double cross within a shield—this issue uses a strong carmine-red color scheme, creating a bold and memorable visual presentation.
The inscription “Freie Stadt Danzig” encircles the emblem in flowing Gothic script, a hallmark of early Danzig typography and symbolic of the city’s longstanding cultural ties to Central Europe and the Baltic region.
This stamp is used, bearing a light to moderate town cancel that does not obscure the main design. The perforations, imagery, and color remain well-detailed, making this a fine example for collectors of:
-
German-area philately
-
Interwar postal history
-
Heraldic designs
-
Baltic regional issues
