Danish West Indies – Scott #43 (1905) – Used
Issued in 1905 for the Danish colony of the Danish West Indies (now the U.S. Virgin Islands), this stamp features the portrait of King Christian IX, framed by a classical laurel wreath design and printed in green with the denomination 5 Bit. The currency Bit was unique to the islands, making these issues historically significant and culturally distinctive.
This issue is part of the final generation of Danish colonial stamps before the islands were sold to the United States in 1917. Stamps from this period are prized by collectors for their fine engraving, elegant typography, and strong connections to Caribbean postal history.
