Description

Czechoslovakia – Scott #836–838 (1957) MNH – International Geophysical Year (IGY) 1957–1958
Issued in 1957, this striking three-stamp set commemorates the International Geophysical Year (IGY), a global scientific collaboration dedicated to studying the Earth’s atmosphere, magnetism, and space environment. The designs reflect the excitement of Cold War–era discovery and the optimism of international scientific cooperation.

The set includes:

  • 45h – Meteorological Observatory on Sněžka Mountain

  • 75h – Sputnik I, the first artificial satellite (launched Oct. 4, 1957)

  • 30h – Radio Telescope at Ondřejov Observatory

Each stamp combines precise engraving with modern industrial design, emphasizing Czechoslovakia’s contributions to meteorology, astronomy, and space research.

All stamps are mint, never hinged (MNH) with full gum, sharp impressions, and rich color. A superb thematic issue for collectors of space exploration, scientific achievements, or Cold War technology.
