Description

Czechoslovakia – Scott #404–405 (1950) Used – Literary Figures: Vladimir Mayakovsky & S.K. Neumann
Issued in 1950, this two-stamp commemorative set honors two major 20th-century poets: Vladimir Mayakovsky (1893–1930) of Russia and Stanislav Kostka Neumann (1875–1950) of Czechoslovakia. Both were influential literary voices of socialist and revolutionary ideals, celebrated for their contributions to modernist poetry and political thought.

The set includes:

  • 1.50 Kčs – Vladimir Mayakovsky (Russian Futurist poet)

  • 3 Kčs – S.K. Neumann (Czech poet and journalist)

Engraved in deep violet and lilac tones, these finely detailed portraits were designed by K. Svolinský and J. Mráček, exemplifying the superb craftsmanship of mid-century Czechoslovak engraving.

Both stamps are used, showing clean circular postmarks, fresh color, and full design clarity. A meaningful set for collectors of literary figures, Czech cultural history, or Cold War–era commemoratives.
