Issued in 1920, this 185 haléřů orange stamp depicts an allegorical female figure of Liberty, arms raised in triumph, symbolizing the birth of the independent Czechoslovak Republic. Designed by the renowned Czech artist Alfons Mucha, the stamp belongs to the celebrated Hradčany series, one of the most iconic and artistically significant early issues of the 20th century.
Mucha’s design blends Art Nouveau grace with national symbolism—the radiant figure representing freedom and the hope of a new nation emerging from the ruins of empire. The initials “VMH” at the bottom honor his authorship.
