Description
Czechoslovakia – Scott #2704 (1988) MNH – PRAGA ’88 International Stamp Exhibition
Issued in 1988, this 7 Kčs commemorative celebrates PRAGA ’88, the International Philatelic Exhibition held in Prague. The stamp honors the Monument of National Literature at Strahov Monastery, one of the Czech Republic’s most treasured cultural institutions.
The design, by J. Liebscher and J. Mráček, combines rich symbolism and fine linework — featuring an illuminated manuscript, heraldic animals, and a panoramic view of Prague beneath an ornate arch. The lower right corner bears the exhibition logo and inscription “Památník Národního Písemnictví v Praze” (“Monument of National Literature in Prague”).
Printed in vivid multicolor photogravure, this issue exemplifies the artistic sophistication of late Czechoslovak philately — merging literary heritage, national pride, and the tradition of stamp collecting itself.
This example is mint, never hinged (MNH), with full original gum and excellent centering. A superb collectible for those who appreciate philatelic exhibitions, Czech culture, or art and literature on stamps.
