Issued in 1876 under Spanish colonial administration, this 50 peseta blue definitive features a finely engraved profile of King Alfonso XII with the inscription “ULTRAMAR – 1876” above the portrait. Intended for use in Spain’s overseas territories, the Ultramar issues remain among the most elegant and historically significant stamps of 19th-century Cuba.

Printed with intricate line engraving and framed by classical motifs, this high-denomination issue was primarily used for large parcel or fiscal purposes, making mint, never hinged examples exceedingly scarce.
