Description
Colombia – Scott #C195 (1935) Used
Issued in 1935, this overprinted airmail stamp features a striking black “A” surcharge on the earlier 1 peso “Correo Aéreo” issue depicting the Signing of the Declaration of Independence in Bogotá. The detailed engraving—produced by the American Bank Note Company—shows Colombia’s dedication to both fine design and early airmail service development.
This issue was created to meet revised postal rates for airmail service and remains a fascinating artifact of Colombia’s interwar postal history. The present example is used, with a clear cancellation, fine centering, and excellent color retention.
An attractive and historically significant piece for collectors of South American airmail, Colombian overprints, or American Bank Note Company issues.
