Part of the 1981 Birds definitive series, this handsome R2 issue from Ciskei features the Cape Eagle-Owl (Bubo capensis), known locally as Isihuluhulu. Illustrated by wildlife artist Dick Findlay, the design portrays the owl perched alertly among thorny branches, its feather detail and piercing gaze rendered with lifelike precision.

The Cape Eagle-Owl, one of southern Africa’s most striking nocturnal predators, symbolizes both wilderness and wisdom. This series, celebrating Ciskei’s native bird species, remains one of the most admired wildlife issues produced by the former homeland.
