Issued in 1981 as part of Ciskei’s beautifully illustrated Birds definitive series, this 30c stamp features the African Green Pigeon (Treron calva), known locally as Intendekwane. The design by artist Dick Findlay captures the bird’s soft green plumage and rose-colored feet as it perches amid delicate foliage.

This series highlighted Ciskei’s diverse birdlife and remains one of the most admired wildlife-themed sets produced during the homeland period of South African philately. Printed with exceptional detail and color balance, it stands as both a natural history study and a collector favorite.
