Cilicia – Scott # 117, hinged

Description

This is Cilicia Scott #117, an early French Occupation (O.M.F.) issue produced for use in Armenian Cilicia following World War I. The underlying stamp is the French 2c brown “Type Mouchon” design, overprinted:

• O.M.F. (Occupation Militaire Française)

• Cilicie

• 5 Paras (surcharge denomination)

The ornate Mouchon design—depicting allegorical figures of Peace and Commerce—is one of France’s classic definitive types, and the Cilicia overprints give these issues added historical significance. They were used only briefly during the French administration of the region (1919–1921), making genuine examples increasingly sought-after.

This stamp is unused hinged, with a strong, clear surcharge and rich original color.
