Cilicia – Scott # 104, hinged

Description

This issue from Cilicia, Scott #104, is an overprinted French stamp from the early 1920s during the Allied occupation of the region. The underlying stamp is the classic French 25c blue “Semeuse” (Sower) design, overprinted:

• O.M.F. (Occupation Militaire Française)

• Cilicie

• 1 Piastre (denomination surcharge)

These overprinted issues were produced for postal use in Armenian Cilicia, an area administered briefly by French forces following World War I. Their short period of use and multiple surcharge types have made the series highly collectible.
