Cilicia #100 (1920) – 10c on 30c Red, “T.E.O.” Overprint on French Levant Issue
Issued in 1920 for use in the French-occupied territory of Cilicia, this 10 centimes on 30 centimes red stamp features the classic French allegorical design “Type Mouchon – Rights of Man” (Droits de l’Homme), overprinted “T.E.O.” (Territoires Ennemis Occupés) and **“PIASTRES / LEVANT”*.
This overprint adapted standard French Levant issues for provisional postal use in Cilicia under French administration after World War I. The elegant seated figure holding the “Droits de l’Homme” tablet reflects France’s republican ideals, juxtaposed with the temporary overprint markings of an occupied region in transition.
A key example of the T.E.O. overprint series, valued by collectors for its historical and political significance.
