Description
This impressive commemorative from the Republic of China, Scott #776, was issued in 1946 to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Directorate General of Posts (1896–1946). Printed in rich violet-purple, the design highlights the modernization and global reach of China’s postal and transportation networks during the early 20th century.
The central vignette features:
-
A steamship approaching from the left
-
A steam locomotive advancing from the right
-
Airplanes flying overhead
-
A radiating globe in the background symbolizing worldwide communication
Framed with a traditional geometric border, the stamp reflects both national identity and technological progress. The denomination, 1000 yuan, appears in the upper left.
This example is Mint Never Hinged, clean with bright color and strong detail—an excellent example of late Republican-era philately.
A fine addition for collectors of Republic of China, transportation, postal history, mid-century Asian philately, or commemorative anniversaries.
