Issued to commemorate the Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth on May 12, 1937, this 20-cent blue issue from Ceylon (modern-day Sri Lanka) features finely engraved portraits of the newly crowned monarchs flanking the Imperial State Crown and scepter.
Part of a worldwide omnibus series produced for the coronation, this elegant design captures the solemn dignity and regal imagery typical of the pre-war British Commonwealth issues. Printed by Waterlow & Sons Ltd., the stamp is beautifully detailed, with excellent color and crisp cancellation.
