Description
Cameroon Scott #657 (1979) – Mint Never Hinged (MNH). Part of the “Animaux en voie de disparition” (Endangered Animals) series issued by the United Republic of Cameroon, this 100-franc stamp features the magnificent panther (leopard) resting on the branch of a tree.
Designed by R. Lambert and engraved by Cartor, the image captures the beauty and power of this endangered species in vivid natural color—golden fur patterned with rosettes against a bold turquoise sky. The inscriptions “ANIMAUX EN VOIE DE DISPARITION. PANTHÈRE” and “REPUBLIQUE UNIE DU CAMEROUN” emphasize Cameroon’s growing commitment to wildlife preservation and environmental awareness during the late 1970s.
Printed with exceptional clarity and artistry, this issue remains a standout piece for collectors of African wildlife, big cats, and conservation-themed philately.
