Issued in 1957, this 20+10 Pfennig rose-red semi-postal stamp honors Elly Heuss-Knapp (1881–1952), the wife of Germany’s first postwar president, Theodor Heuss. A social reformer and humanitarian, she founded the Müttergenesungswerk (Mother’s Convalescence Work), an organization dedicated to improving health care and recovery for mothers.
