Description
Germany (Berlin) — Brothers Grimm “Helfer der Menschheit” Semi-Postal 40pf +10 (Scott 9NB163)
This classic Berlin semi-postal issue, cataloged as Scott 9NB163, honors Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, the renowned scholars and storytellers whose work helped preserve German folklore and linguistic tradition. Issued by Deutsche Bundespost Berlin, the stamp forms part of the Helfer der Menschheit (“Helpers of Mankind”) charity series.
The design presents paired profile portraits of the Brothers Grimm in a dignified, scholarly style, rendered in layered tones of teal, green, and black. The dual-profile composition emphasizes collaboration and shared legacy, reflecting their joint contribution to literature, philology, and cultural preservation. The additional +10pf surtax supported charitable causes, reinforcing the humanitarian theme of the series.
Offered in mint never hinged (MNH) condition, this stamp retains full original gum, sharp perforations, and rich, unfaded color. It is an excellent addition for collectors of Berlin issues, semi-postals, literary figures, fairy-tale history, or German cultural heritage.
A thoughtful and visually refined issue celebrating intellectual legacy and humanitarian purpose.
