Description
Bavaria Scott #104–108 (1911–1919) — Used (Set of 5)
This attractive five-stamp set from the Kingdom of Bavaria (Scott #104–108) features King Ludwig III, the final monarch to appear on Bavarian postage before the kingdom’s postal authority was absorbed into the German Reich. Issued between 1911 and 1919, these stamps embody the dignified simplicity and fine typographic style characteristic of Bavaria’s last royal series.
Each value presents a sharply detailed portrait of the king within a circular frame, inscribed “BAYERN” in strong serif lettering below. The set includes:
-
#104 (30 Pf orange red) – vivid and lively tone, well-printed portrait.
-
#105 (40 Pf olive brown) – somber wartime shade, symbolizing the era’s austerity.
-
#106 (50 Pf rose red) – warm and rich, one of the most balanced color printings.
-
#107 (60 Pf blue green) – crisp and elegant, excellent contrast and depth.
-
#108 (80 Pf violet brown) – deep, regal hue befitting the final Bavarian issues.
All are postally used, with legible circular cancellations that enhance their authenticity without obscuring the design. Together, they represent the closing chapter of independent Bavarian philately.
