Description
Bavaria Scott #O9 (1916) — Used
This 7½ Pfennig green Official stamp (Scott #O9) was issued in 1916 for exclusive use by Bavarian government offices. The design features the royal Bavarian coat of arms, supported by two heraldic lions, under the bold heading “DIENSTMARKE” (“Official Stamp”), marking it as part of the administrative mail series used during the final years of the Bavarian monarchy.
Official stamps like this were not sold to the public and were required for correspondence from government ministries, courts, and other state institutions. Issued during World War I, the O9 is part of a series that reflects the formal and dignified aesthetic of the Kingdom of Bavaria’s late philatelic period.
This example is postally used, showing a clean cancellation and excellent color preservation.
