Description

Bavaria Scott #O14 (1916) — Used

This 20 Pfennig dark blue Official stamp (Scott #O14) was issued in 1916 by the Kingdom of Bavaria for state and administrative correspondence. It belongs to the classic Dienstmarke series featuring the Bavarian royal coat of arms, supported by two crowned lions and topped with the state’s heraldic crown — one of the most dignified and enduring emblems of Bavaria’s monarchy.

The Dienstmarke stamps were not available for public purchase and were restricted to official mail from government offices, ministries, and the royal court. The O14 is a slightly deeper shade than the earlier O13 issue, offering a handsome, rich blue tone that accentuates the detailed engraving of the coat of arms.

This example is postally used, with a light, well-placed cancel and crisp impression.

Condition: Used; fine centering; light cancel; deep, clean color.
Issued: 1916
Color: Dark blue
Denomination: 20 Pfennig
Design Theme: Bavarian coat of arms with lions and crown; “DIENSTMARKE” inscription
Purpose: Government and official correspondence
Historical Note: One of the final Dienstmarke issues under King Ludwig III, reflecting the regal precision of Bavarian design before the end of the monarchy in 1918.
