Bavaria Scott #96a (1914–1919) — Used
This 5 Pfennig dark green definitive from the Kingdom of Bavaria (Scott #96a) features a finely engraved portrait of King Ludwig III, the last ruler of Bavaria. Issued between 1914 and 1919, this darker shade variety was produced during World War I and shortly thereafter, when ink formulations and paper stocks varied due to wartime shortages.
The design belongs to the celebrated King Ludwig III series, notable for its restrained classical composition, typographic precision, and understated elegance. As one of the final issues of Bavaria before it relinquished its independent postal authority, it holds special significance for collectors of both German States and early 20th-century European monarchies.
