Description
Bavaria Scott #265 (1920) — Used
This 60 Pfennig blue stamp (Scott #265) is part of Bavaria’s final overprinted issue of 1920, created during the state’s postal merger with the German Reichspost. The design features a classical laborer with hammer and anvil, symbolizing strength, productivity, and postwar recovery—a recurring theme in Bavaria’s late definitive issues.
Originally part of the Allegory of Agriculture and Industry series, it was later overprinted “Deutsches Reich” to denote the formal end of Bavaria’s independent postal authority. This series marks the last chapter in Bavarian philately before full integration into the German Empire’s postal system.
This example is postally used, with a clean circular cancellation and rich color preservation.
Condition: Used; strong color; fine centering; clear postmark.
Issued: 1920
Color: Blue
Denomination: 60 Pfennig
Design Theme: Allegory of Agriculture and Industry
Overprint: “Deutsches Reich”
Historical Note: Among the final Bavarian-origin stamps, issued just before the Reichspost assumed complete postal control.
