Bavaria Scott #252–254 (1920) — Used Set

This striking three-stamp set (Scott #252–254) was issued in 1920, featuring allegorical figures of German unity and progress overprinted “Deutsches Reich” to mark Bavaria’s final transition into the unified German postal system.

Each high-denomination stamp displays a neoclassical female figure symbolizing Peace and Prosperity, holding a laurel wreath and torch within a circular frame—an image of rebirth after the devastation of World War I. Originally produced for Bavaria, these stamps were later overprinted to serve the new Reichspost, making them some of the last issues to bear Bavarian origins.

Printed in bold colors—5 Mark orange, 10 Mark green, and 20 Mark black violet—the set is visually dramatic and historically significant, representing the symbolic close of Bavaria’s independent philatelic era.
