Description

Bavaria Scott #106 (1911–1919) — Used

This 50 Pfennig red brown definitive from the Kingdom of Bavaria (Scott #106) depicts King Ludwig III, Bavaria’s final monarch and the last to appear on its postage stamps. Issued between 1911 and 1919, this series represents the closing chapter of Bavarian independence before the kingdom’s postal system was absorbed into the German Reich following World War I.

Printed by typography, the design is classically restrained, featuring a lifelike portrait of Ludwig III within a circular frame, complemented by the bold “BAYERN” inscription below. The warm brown tone gives the issue a stately, almost sepia quality that evokes the dignity of its era.

This example is postally used, bearing a light cancel that preserves the portrait’s clarity and fine linework.

Condition: Used; light cancel; well-centered; strong impression and fresh color.
Issued: 1911–1919
