Description
Bavaria Scott #102 (1911–1919) — Used
This 20 Pfennig blue green definitive from the Kingdom of Bavaria (Scott #102) features the commanding portrait of King Ludwig III, Bavaria’s last monarch before the end of the royal postal system. Issued between 1911 and 1919, the series is one of the most recognizable in German state philately—an enduring symbol of Bavarian identity during the final years of independence.
Printed by typography, the design reflects a refined neoclassical style: Ludwig’s portrait framed by a circular medallion above the bold “BAYERN” inscription. These issues circulated widely during World War I and the early postwar years, making them both historically and aesthetically significant.
This example is postally used, with a clean partial cancel that leaves the portrait and color sharp and clear.
Condition: Used; light cancel; fine centering; strong impression; vibrant blue-green color.
