Description

Baden Scott #5NB6 (1949) — Used

This 10+20 Pfennig green semipostal from Baden (Scott #5NB6) was issued in 1949 under the French occupation to support the reconstruction of Freiburg im Breisgau, one of southwest Germany’s most historic cities. The design features the majestic Freiburg Minster (Freiburger Münster), a Gothic cathedral that survived heavy bombing during World War II and became a symbol of endurance and renewal.

Part of the Wiederaufbau Freiburg (“Rebuilding Freiburg”) charity series, this issue combined postage with a surtax benefiting restoration efforts. The engraving’s fine vertical lines and perspective accentuate the cathedral’s soaring spire—the tallest in Baden.

This example is postally used, showing a clean, circular cancellation that leaves the design well visible.
