Description
Austria Scott #73 — MNH — 5 Heller Emperor Franz Josef I (1901–1904 Issue)
Issued between 1901 and 1904, this 5 heller definitive stamp is part of Austria’s long-running imperial portrait series featuring Emperor Franz Josef I. The design presents a finely engraved profile of the emperor framed within a classical oval portrait border, surrounded by intricate scrollwork and denomination tablets placed at the four corners.
Printed in a deep blue-green shade, the stamp exemplifies the precision engraving and consistent craftsmanship of the Austrian State Printing House during the turn of the century. While the 5 heller denomination was widely used in everyday postal service, uncirculated Mint Never Hinged examples remain highly desirable due to the extensive commercial demand at the time.
This example is MNH, retaining full original gum with strong color, sharp impression, and clean, intact perforations. A handsome and well-preserved piece of early 20th-century Austro-Hungarian philately.
An excellent addition for collectors of:
-
Austro-Hungarian Empire
-
Franz Josef portrait issues
-
Classic European definitives
-
Early 1900s engraved stamps
