Australia Scott #142–144 — Used — “Centenary of Victoria & South Australia” (1934–1936)
This three-stamp group brings together two related commemorative issues marking major milestones in Australian colonial history. Issued between 1934 and 1936, the designs celebrate the Centenary of Victoria and the Centenary of South Australia, using classic engraved imagery that reflects early settlement and the natural landscape.

Scott #142 (1934, 2d Red — Centenary of Victoria)
This stamp portrays an Aboriginal figure in the foreground overlooking the early settlement of Melbourne, symbolizing both the ancient presence and the rapid transformation of the region. Fine horizontal shading and detailed architectural renderings make this one of Australia’s most admired commemoratives of the 1930s.

Scott #143 (1936, 1½d Green — Centenary of South Australia)
Issued two years later, the South Australia centenary stamp features a pastoral vignette of Adelaide and the surrounding hills, framed by agricultural motifs. The crisp green color and strong engraved lines give it a distinctive visual appeal.

Scott #144 (1934, 1d Black — Centenary of Victoria)
A second Victoria issue from 1934, this stamp shows a panoramic scene of Melbourne with ships in the harbour, emphasizing the growth of the colony into a major port city. Printed in deep black, it is one of the more dramatic monochrome designs of the era.

All three examples are postally used, each with circular cancellations typical of the mid-1930s. The strikes are legible without obscuring the designs, and the stamps retain good detail and perforations. These are excellent foundational pieces for collectors of:

  • Australian commemoratives

  • Colonial & settlement history

  • 1930s engraved issues

  • Used condition Commonwealth classics
