Description
Australia Scott #C1 — Used — 3d “Air Mail Service” (1929, First Australian Airmail Stamp)
Issued in 1929, Australia’s first official airmail stamp marks a major milestone in the nation’s aviation and postal history. The 3d Air Mail Service issue depicts a biplane soaring over a rural Australian landscape, complete with grazing cattle, open fields, and characteristic eucalyptus trees—a scene symbolizing the expanding connection between remote regions and the modern airmail network.
Printed in green and black, the design is one of the most recognizable early aviation themes of the British Commonwealth. Released to promote and support the developing air-post system, Scott #C1 is widely collected for both its historical significance and its pastoral, finely engraved artwork.
This example is postally used, with a well-struck cancellation typical of the late 1920s–early 1930s period. The stamp shows solid color, intact perforations, and clear design details—even with the cancellation—making it an appealing representative of Australia’s pioneering airmail issues.
An excellent addition for collectors of:
-
Early aviation & airmail
-
Australia classics
-
Transportation topicals
-
First-issue airmail stamps
