Description
Argentina Scott #1755 — MNH — “Coprinus comatus” (Shaggy Ink Cap Mushroom) (1991)
Issued in 1991, this beautifully rendered definitive stamp from Argentina features Coprinus comatus, commonly known as the Shaggy Ink Cap or Lawyer’s Wig mushroom. Its distinctive, tall, tapering caps—covered in shaggy, scale-like fibers—are illustrated with botanical precision, accompanied by a sliced view showing the characteristic gills.
Drawn by G. Quaglia and printed by the Casa de Moneda, the design uses a clean white background to emphasize the detailed naturalistic artwork. Part of Argentina’s long-running series of flora and fungi definitives, this issue highlights the country’s diverse and ecologically rich fungal species.
This example is Mint Never Hinged, with full original gum, fresh color, and a crisp, sharp impression. An excellent addition for collectors of:
-
Mushrooms / mycology
-
Botanical stamps
-
Latin American definitives
-
Argentina flora & fauna
