AMERIPEX ’86 – Classic Streamlined Locomotives

This pair of beautifully illustrated stamps was issued for AMERIPEX 1986, the major international philatelic exhibition held in Chicago. Antigua & Barbuda honored the event with depictions of two legendary American streamlined passenger trains:

$1 – “Powhatan Arrow Express” (Scott #936)

Featuring the sleek N&W Class J locomotive, famous for its powerful performance and distinctive bullet-nosed design. The stamp captures the locomotive at speed, its streamlined casing and dramatic red-accented livery cutting through the landscape.

$3 – “Empire State Express” (Scott #937)

Showcasing the NYCRR’s iconic streamliner, remembered for setting speed records and defining the visual language of mid-century American rail travel. The polished steel shrouding and bold lines are rendered with strong detail and nostalgic flair.

Both stamps carry the AMERIPEX ’86 exhibition emblem and are fresh MNH, with full original gum and excellent color.
