Description
Antigua Scott #86, issued in 1938 as part of the King George VI definitive series, presents an engraved view of Nelson’s Dockyard, one of the Caribbean’s most historically significant naval sites. The vignette shows the dockyard nestled within the hills of English Harbour, with fine detail in the shoreline, ships, and surrounding landscape. A profile portrait of King George VI appears at top left, framed in the classic colonial style.
Printed in brown-violet, this stamp is well-regarded for its crisp engraving and balanced composition, characteristic of the high-quality British Commonwealth definitives of the period.
This example is unused hinged, with full original gum and only light hinge marks typical for the issue. Perforations are clean, the image is sharp, and the color remains strong—an attractive example for collectors of KGVI era Antigua, British colonial designs, and naval history on stamps.
