Description

Afars & Issas Scott #335, issued in 1974, depicts aerial agricultural work in the territory—specifically helicopter-based anti–locust spraying, an important regional effort in the Horn of Africa. The design shows a detailed illustration of a helicopter flying low over arid scrubland, releasing pesticide to protect crops and vegetation from locust swarms.

Printed in rich tones of teal, grey, and brown, the stamp carries the inscription “LUTTE ANTICACRIDENNE — PULVÉRISATION PAR HÉLICOPTÈRE” (“Anti-locust control — spraying by helicopter”), reflecting the practical and scientific themes common to late French territorial issues.

This example is used, with a clear corner cancel that leaves the central image unobstructed.
